Meet the artists

In addition to its traditional production and in conjunction with the Musée de la Faïence de Quimper, the Faïencerie d’Art Breton seeks to encourage artists to use pottery for their creations, it being an exceptional medium when the décor is done completely by hand!

The first example of this initiative was the creation of the original signature of the Faïencerie d’Art Breton by Enrique Marin in 1994.

Then it was the contribution of Goudie to the Musée de la Faïence (the creation of 60 unique pieces on the FAB forms) which cemented this favored relationship with artists.

1999 was a fruitful year when artistic revivalist Olivier Lapicque, Patrice Cudennec with roots in spirituality, Sophie Darley, and others constituted a true artistic movement in pottery.

This rapid renovation of style must be considered in the context of the 300-year history of Quimper pottery.

Many prestigious artists, such as Picasso, Cocteau, and Jean Marais, were recognized as artists through their ceramics. Some worked at Quimper, including Berthe Savigny and Louis-Henri Nicot, whose creations are produced today by the Faïencerie d’Art Breton. François Méheut, with a special stamping technique.

Jeanne Levêque with her religious figures, Patrick Queffelec, Henri Jaquin, Antoine Le Bihan, Jean-Yves André, Paul Moal, Franck Léon, Ar Roué have all become part of the artistic group of the Faïencerie d’Art Breton.

Since 2003, the Faïencerie d’Art Breton is the producer of the winning pieces of the international competition of "Une Œuvre de Faïence".

Who will solve
the mystery of Dax?

The FAB produces two pieces which represent celebrating sailors and are signed DAX on the back of the base.

In the book Craquelés by Patrick Malaureille (Editions Massin), it is mentioned that this is probably a pseudonym. It has been verified that the trail to Edouard Cazeaux is not the right one, and other searches have proven unsuccessful.
